Magnaporting

I'm looking at a magnaported Redhawk in a 44mag. I've had no experience with magnaporting. Would like to know what advantages, disadvantages you see in a magnaported gun. Thanks in advance

------------------
bullet placement is gun control

Advantages - Reduced muzzle flip, quicker follow up shots because of.

Disadvantages - Increased muzzle flash (at low light/night), Increased muzzle noise (louder).

I have my Casull Mag-Na-Ported. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I had my SP-101 MagnaPorted and it's been wonderful. They do a great job. Not cheap, but worth it. I'd recommend them. It really does reduce the muzzle flip.

My Dad's got an S&W 686 (.357) with factory porting. It's not a good carry gun (course, it's got a 6" barrel) cause of the flash but, damn, is it ever easy to control and accurate.

The term "Magnaported" has almost become generic. The actual "Magnaporting" is a trade mark and a unique design.
I've been able to shoot guns side by side that are identicle except one is Magnaported.
The heavier the recoil the more it reduces recoil. In a .38 Special you really don't notice it. In a .357 it is very noticeable in reduction. In .44 Mag you can sure tell. It does redirect the gases and the sensation of blast and recoil and also changed and it takes some getting used to. For hunting it is a great addition. For self-defense I wouldn't suggest it. Having gases escape in TWO directions isn't a good idea. And very blinding with some loads in the darkness.
