Magazine problem with Browning FN .25 cal

Today I fired my grandfather's old Browning FN 1906 in .25 caliber. It hadn't been shot in at least 55 years. The owner of my gun store disassembled it so I could clean and oil it somewhat before I fired it.

The problem is, the magazine doesn't fit entirly flush to the bottom of the gun- is sticks out about a millimenter when the magazine is empty. The magazine catch can't click shut and hold it in place. To allow the gun to feed properly, I had to hold the magazine in place with my hand while shooting, otherwise it would work out and refuse to feed.

It's a neat little gun, and I'd like to fix it, if possible. Any ideas? I was wondering if it could be dirt or grease inside the frame. Or maybe filing off a corner of the bottom of the magazine would let the latch catch onto it. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure, but is that the gun known as the "browning baby"?

If so, I have a copy by the name of the PSP-25, made by KBI. Bauer also makes a copy. If it is the same gun, you could try getting a mag for one of those and trying it.

The clip in mine holds 6 rounds.

It could be gunk on the mag or in the mag well, or the mag catch spring could be rusty. Try a good cleaning or soak. Maybe use gun scrubber and spray the heck out of the entire piee. I had the same problem with some GI mags for my 1911. They had so much cosmoline on them, they would fit the mag well properly. Also, check to see you're not over loading the magazine capacity. Hope this helps.
