Magazine Feeding Speed

I have had some "nose diving" problems with my Mak, where rounds hang up on the feed ramp in a nose down attitude.

This only happens with the first couple of rounds in a full magazine and is allegedly related to the mag spring not pushing the next round up with sufficient speed, so here's the question.

Will a magazine push a round up faster when it is full (when the spring has greater compression) or when it is nearly empty (less spring compression but less weight to push out of the way).

I thought I knew, but now I'm not so sure.

Is this happening with just one mag? If it is try a different mag. They feed almost straight into the barrel. It sounds like something is hanging up in the mag. Mags are really cheap to replace. My mak will even feed empty shells if I resize them. Mark

I think the problem may lie in several areas with the Mak, not least of which is the large rough cavity of the Barnaul JHP's that are doing the hanging up.

My question about magazines is a general one however, I'll sort the Mak out with a feed ramp re-profile when I have soem big dot Tritiums fitted, until then it will be fed Hornady XTP's (no problems todate).

So magazine feed, is it faster or slower with more rounds loaded ?

The springs will get progressively weaker as rounds are fed out of the magazines. However, the problem you describe sounds like it could be related to the follower. It could also be related to rounds being over the proper overall length.

Could just be that it's a makarov.:p
