Mag Tube Detonation Question

After reading the thread regarding the 45-70 Marlin mag tube detonation I began questioning the wisdom of loading my Winchester model 94 with Winchester Power Point 30-30. They are slightly rounded at the tip. Is it posible they could set off a round in the tube?

Never say never, but it is very unlikely. For one thing, the recoil of the .30-30 is a lot less than that of the .45-70, and besides the magazine tube is a little different. Still, flat points would be better and just as accurate.

Just to be safe, which Winchester 150 gr Power Point?

One of Winchester's 30-30 factory loads is a well rounded 150gr Power Point that is intended for use in tube feed magazines.

They also make a 150 gr PP for 308s, 3006, etc... that has too narrow of a lead tip for me to trust in a tube.

I don't see the need to getting greedy with ballistic coefficients in a 30-30. A spitzer may be 250 fps faster at 200 yards, but not fast enough for hunting purposes. A flat or round nose doing 1600 fps may expand more reliably than a spitzer doing 1850.

If you think you need to stretch your 30-30s legs, remember the first round in the chamber can be anything, and _one_ more (not two) of most rounds can be loaded in the tube.
