Mag questions.

I am looking at buying a new 9mm pistol. Is it possible to get high cap mags for guns produced after 1994(like the P-99, steyr M9)? If so when can I find them at a DECENT price. If not who makes/sells good mags(factory?) for other pistols like the baretta, browning and sig??
Any help is appreciated
Thanks
Brian

Yes, see above. Just a word of warning though...If you decide to go the Browning Hi Power route, and want the 17 round South African mags, get an actual Browning Hi Power. For some reason my FEG will not accept the South African magazines, but it will accept the Browning factory 10 rounders.
The FEG is a good clone of the BRowning, but if you are mainly buying for "hi cap" purposes this is just a little FYI for you.

Generally speaking, the Beretta 92 FS is the best choice because pre-ban mags are available at somewhat reasonable prices. After this choice, the Ruger P series in 9mm comes in second for availability of pre-ban 15 round mags. Glock, Sig, and others are expensive and not worth the trouble, IMHO. Yet, you can buy a new Glock 19, live with the bastardized Klinton mags, and spend your money on practice ammo instead. I can't say enough good things about the Glock 19; it is always my first choice in the minor caliber.

The only people I'd trust to make mags for my Beretta are Beretta. You can usually find them in good shape for 30-40 bucks. New for around 60. Obviously, the stainless ones are more.

I usually find them at gun shows, but you can also find them on the TFL accessories board, as well as on http://www.gunbroker.com, http://www.auctionarms.com, and http://www.gunsamerica.com.

BTW, some guns made after 1994 do have hi-caps, including the Walther P99 (which is an excellent gun). The story I've heard is that they made the mags before the guns were done and imported them to the US to beat the ban just before it went into effect.

The 17 rders work very well in the BHP.I have 4 and am very happy with them.Your FEG must have some differences.

Never miss a chance to plug my favorite magazine source, http://www.clipsNstuff.com. Excellent people to do business with and I have found their descriptions of used mags 100% accurate. Another advantage, if you purchase a mag from them and it doesn't work in your pistol, send it back for a refund no questions asked. Never had to use this service but it's nice to know it's there.
Take Care

gryphon,

What kind of problem do you have with these? FWIW, I picked up four of them, and they seem to function fine in my FEG, as well as my WW2 Inglis HP. Do you have a FTF, or the magazine simply won't lock in?

Preban Mags

It stands to reason that the Glock pistol would have far more preban high capacity magazines available, since they have sold so many of their pistols in this country to Law Enforcement and on the civillian market.

I'm satisfied with the Mec-gar mags for the 92FS. I just got one NIB for $40 at the last gun show. IFAIK, Mec-gar is the factory source for Beretta.
