Made up my mind.

After a bit of hesitation.

I've decided, I'm going to buy my first .30-30 today. Cheaper than the .45-70 I really want, by a hundred or more dollars, and unlike the .45-70, I could afford to shot it. Probably going to get a Marlin 336C. Maybe they'll have one in .35 Rem, but I doubt it. The shops are pretty cleaned out after Deer Season.

Have a new Marlin 336W in my trunk. The stockwood is not as nice as the 336C, but it cost $50.00 less. It came with a thick padded nylon sling that I'll probably replace with a regular 1" sling, if at all (slings and leverguns don't always work well together).

The trigger is nicer than the modern Winchesters, though I don't think the sights are the best. I've thought about buying a Peep Sight from Ashley Outdoors, but AOs website is poorly organized and I'm not sure which item to get.

Two boxes of .30-30 to go with it as well. So, now after they've banned semiautos and my Remington 7400 and my FAL are sealed up in pipes, hidden in the back yard, I'll still have a rifle to take to the range. Booyah!

Hopefully I'll get to test it next week. For the 7th of December, we have REMARKABLY little snow, and the sun is shining. The old quarry we do our shooting in may still be accessable for some time, so let us keep our fingers crossed.

My first deer rifle was a Marlin 336. That rifle still shoots nearly 1 inch groups after 20 + years.

I really don't see the need to replace the sights, try them out first. Buckhorn sights work just fine in the woods with both eyes open.

I always hunted with federal premium 170 gr ammo, but red box 150 gr stuff is cheap to shoot.

Let us know how it groups.

I'm over in Marquette, going to school, but I live up in Houghton County. No ranges around here. Well, there are a few, but not what most of you TFLers from more populated areas would consider a real range. No rental guns or anything like that, I'm afraid.
