need some input on the whole thing front to back. do's & dont's and time line. I'm at the end waiting for a yes or no. then i think i go before a board review???????
Mine was just under 2 months. I applied end of June and my board review is the end of this month. Pick the form up at MCCS or maybe your local LEO agency. Read it and fill it out before you get there. It gets pretty crowded, and stay away from the clerks office anytime near noon.
First of all, you've got to get your CPL or equivalent certification. Most charges in our area are around 150 buck. But you can catch a deal sometimes. Check out Detroit Arms in Chesterfield if you haven't done so yet. Good peeps over there, I've done alot of business with them.
Once you've received your cert. which you will get after the course if completed. Get yourself a passport photo taken. Most CVS's do this.
Next, or I guess when ever you choose.... go to Macomb County Sheriffs office and go to the second set of windows on the left. Sign in and list CPL printing. (No charge). They won't give you anything back iirc.
Take your passport photo along with your ID, and CPL cert. to the county clerks office. There you'll be charged a $105 application fee. They will take one of the photos for your passport copy's. And give them your completed CPL application. And they will make a copy of your CPL cert. Be sure you bring them the
actual certificate, not a copy they will copy it and give the original back too you.
Once you've done that.... you just wait. They give you a form that gives your unique pin number for you information, on the process of your application. For instance when your prints were sent off to the MISP, and FBI and so on. Right on down to the time and date of your board review. They will also sent your a letter via US Postal with times and dates. It was listed on the website before I received my letter.
So I have to appear in front of the board this month, how much longer until I get the license? Will I know the results the same day?
It's issued to you before you leave the building, they already know if they're going to approve or deny your request at that point. Its a very fast process. 4-5 questions... and its either ya or nay And if you remember when your applied.... they put your photo right in the permit before you leave the counter to make sure the passport photo is to required scale.
Anything else that I havent touched on, or haven't given a very good explanation of. Feel free to ask...
