M96 Vs. M17s

Basic idea, i want a .223 fun gun. I choose not to have an AR15- and am leaning towards these two only. My main concearn is reliability, and using ar15 mags.
So what do you say, the Robinsons Armament M96, or the much cheaper Bushy M17s bullpup. (price is not the main issue, but it is worth mentioning that i know the M96 is 2x the price).

Go with what you like. The M96 will probably be more accurate and more customizable. They will be coming out with a belt-fed upper receiver soon.

AR15s are also great firearms. Why have you ruled them out?

The trigger on the M96 is much better than on the Bushmaster Bullpup. The m96 is quite long, about 40" for the rifle, and about 37" for the carbine. Both have gas-piston systems and should operate cleanly. The iron sights on the M96 are good. If you have the opportunity, handle both. I spent my cash on the M96, while a M17 was available for about $600.

Thanks, im leaning to the M96 pretty far- just thought it would be handy to have the bullpup, and i understand the m17s has a gas piston rather than the standard ar15/m16 dirty bolt system. THats another reason why i like it. But finish and true battle feel would be better im sure, on the M96.

The M-17 has a lot of issues... reliability is one of them.

Get the M96.
For .223 it is the best rifle there is available to US Civies. If you want better there is the G36 rifle - but that is both debatable and unavailable.

Day dreaming of an M17s, working the trigger smoothe, sticking on some sorbathane wrap for a good cheek weld at the rear, maybe some Agrip material at the grip, and light neoprene around the barrel shroud area (to avoid that hot condition the M17 gets), and id shave downthe charging handle some, and ditch the mounting rail all together, and have a gun smith weld on a low weaver style rail far foward. I think a low mounted Leupold scout scope would be really nice on this bushie.

However the general concensus is that the M96 is a better piece, and to the victor goes the spoils.
