M96 or Les Baer M4 Upper

I'm think of getting a Les Baer M4 Upper for my Oly Arms lower or a new M96 from Robar. Principle uses will be home defence on my acre and a half, and tactical rifle competition (Range mosly less than 200yds).

What are the pros and cons?

I recently sold an LE CAR-15. I was second guessing myself about the sale until I bought the M96. I'm not big into rifles, I mostly have handguns, but I found it to be a kick in the a$$ to shoot. I'm gald I made the switch. Here is a link to the target I shot the first day out http://www.parkcitiestactical.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=000042
I'm sure that an experienced rifleman will be able to get the most out of the M96. I plan on honing my skills with it.

Honestly? If you intend on the rifle serving some role as a selfdefense rifle then I would not go with a Wilson Combat or JP Enterprises upper, both likely are made to more restricting tolerances that might turn around to bite a person in the butt some day down the line when it really counts. I would look more towards a Bushmaster Vmatch type upper assembly where having it's barrel built to milspec it will likely run a wider variety of ammo more reliably than the JP or Wilson Combat uppers while the freefloated handguard would allow for a bit more consistent accuracy than regular handguards would allow for. And in most situations the Vmatches will still allow for enough accuracy to run well in the 3gun or tactical matches after either irons or optics are selected that are appropriate to the match.

If you were going for an ultimate varmint AR15 or just a game gun then I'd suggest folks like JP Enterprises, Metalcraft, DPMS, as well as a couple others but when I think of picking up an AR15 and counting on it to be reliable I goto one of my more MilSpec setups rather than turn to my tweaked and accurized JP gun.

Go with the M96 Carbine for sure!

Don't worry about the cracks about the M96's accuracy. It's PLENTY accurate with the right ammo for most every application you'll need it for save only bullseye competition.
This isn't a target rifle... its a Service Rifle. Its meant for FIGHTING, not printing groups. Like the AK. You dont hear a lot of people berating the AK for it's lack of accuracy. Why? Its a war tool. Its a defense tool. If you want to just sit around a climate controlled and cleaned range... then get an AR. Thats what they are best for anyway. If you want a gun for serious work... then get the M96.
