I know this has probably been covered a million times but I'm fairly new to the snubby revolver scene and was wondering what load usually works best for a 2" revolver. How much velocity would 125gr and 158gr loads usually lose from the 2" of lost barrel length? What do you guys use? Thanks to anyone who can provide could advice.

First..

Find out what shoots straight with recoil you can manage. Some ammo won't shoot well thru snubs.

I read an article in American Rifleman about Speer .38 +p 135gr GD - specifically made for use in firing out of snubbies. They gave it an "ammo of the year" award.

The "old standard" that served LE well for decades was the 158 GR LSWCHP +P. It worked very well in the past, and it works very well now!

fbi load

the 158 gr lswchp 38 plus p is the old "fbi load" and is a good carry in any 38 including your snubby. a good alternative are the federal personal defense loads. with a snubby hitting is an issue, especially under high stress..and huge mag loads do not encourage hits under stress for most of us.

snub load

Like shield 20 said, the 135 +P Speer.
After trying a couple of boxes, I am sold. Will never carry anything else. Chrono slightly over 860 fps from my 642. All in a teacup at 15 yards.
All I will ever need. Get a good grip, you WILL know when they go off.
Good luck

I have a 357 snub that my wife and I shoot. She doesn't feel comfortable shooting the stronger loads, so we've come full circle back to wwb130gn ball ammo in 38spl. Shoots straight and low recoil. I know it won't expand, but not much else will at less than 800 fps. I know there are better loads, but I have to believe given proper placement, these will do the job.
