M6 Scout

I've had a M6 Scout on my radar for years now but never ran across one since the 90's. So today I stroll through the LGS and low and behold there she sits, the M6!! This one is .22 hornet/.410, seems to be in really good shape, no rust and very dry (no oil), and is stamped Czech Republic on one side with Geneseo IL on the other side. Before I tell you what they're asking for it I would like opinions on its value.

I was originally after the .22 or .22mag but the .22 hornet is not out of the question especially since I've never owned or shot one which means I do need it ;D
 
I bought one back when they were available, for $175. I sold it five years later for $500.
It was a useful gun, but it had a habit of sticking fired Hornet cases in the chamber.
I sent it to Springfield, and they polished the chamber and said problem solved, in their test fire.
Still happened to me.
 
That is similar to the one I'm looking at except mine does not have a sling and I dont recall a rail on top.

How would the price change w/o the rail or were some sold w/o rails?

The rail, sling and swivels were available from Springfield, as well as a couple cool cases..
I had the scope rail on mine, and made my own sling set up using climbing cord and tubular webbing.
 
Springfield doesn't mention anything about the M6 but I will shoot them an email and see what they say, maybe they'll find something under a pile of dust and give me a good deal
 
Wow, $325 is a great deal. I bought one a few years ago, was a stainless model in 22LR/410 with box. I bought it to flip and made a little money on the sale. I really did not warm up to it and was glad to move it along. Hope yours works out for you.
 
I bought one when they were new and when the prices went thorough the roof I found somebody who wanted to own it more than I did.

Do not take it apart. As far as I can tell they are assembled with the frame in two halves, the lock work put in and the whole thing riveted together. I've taken apart a LOT of guns and this was the worst to put back together by far, involving some custom slave pins and a very complex reassembly procedure. You have been warned.

Well one of my other questions was going to be about complete tear down but that is out of the question now, thanks for the warning.

I almost took the trigger guard off but I had that fear of some wild spring and or pin go flying to never never land... Maybe I can find an owners manual someplace that will show me whats inside.
 
I used to have one that fit under the seat of my snowmobile when I lived in AK. Great little guy when you would run across ptarmigan in season. Sold it when I moved outside.
 
I wanted one of those for many years but never found one for a price I was willing to pay. Then one day I was in WM and they had one of the Remington imported Spartan/Bakiel 22/410 combo guns someone had ordered then didn't want it.

Its fun to shoot. I had never fired a .410 and found a new respect for a round I had read so much bad about. I have four .410s now and I made my own reloading set up for it. I even have a 3 ball load for it with a .395 ball that weighs 95grs and gets over 1100fps velocity. It does a number on 2x4 wood blocks.

I hope you give a range report when you shoot it.
