M500 ATP?

Bough a Mossberg M500 ATP with 18.5" barrel, bead sight, and wood furniture for a song. Great shape.

From what I understand this was made before the MILSPEC Mossys like the 590 and is the first "military and police" Mossberg.

Do they accept the same parts as a normal 500? I plan to run the gun HARD in run and guns and creek blasting. Will it hold up? Any spare parts I should need?

I have a very similar 500 ATP purchased back in 2011. It was a former Alabama State Trooper gun. Mine has a 20" barrel and a capacity of 7 + 1 or 6 + 1 with 3" rounds. The A in the acronym stands for 12 gauge, and the TP stands for Tactical Police. My example has wood furniture and a sling.

I paid a whopping $145.33 for the shotgun and sent the barrel off to Mossberg for a $35.00 re-bluing.

In my opinion it is a reliable heavy duty shotgun and sits behind my nightstand.

Awesome Lamarw. Hopefully mine is really cool, I am waiting on it from the dealer. Should get it soon. One thing is some boob screwed a sling swivel into the forearm but that should come out without too much trouble. Still got it for a steal and it appears to be in nice shape.

Mine is a little different from the one in the picture by T. O'Heir. As you can see in the attachment, it does not have a bayonet attachment and the front of the sling attaches to the front lug behind the magazine cap. I guess the Alabama State Patrol had no need for a bayonet. It would be cool. :)

Should be an oil finished stock, a 20" phosphated barrel, 8 rounds in the tube and have a bayonet lug for an M-16 bayonet. More LEO than military. Mostly big kids toys. We sold all kinds of 'em in the shop I worked in long ago(Late 70's, early 80's). Barrels and mag springs are not interchangeable with regular M500 barrels. Rest of it is pure M500.
Like this one. https://joesalter.ca/products/mossberg-military-shotgun-500-atp-8-sp-
That is not the only ATP version, T. Mine is the 18.5" version with 6 shot capacity.

Mine is a fairly new 500A with 18.5" barrel. I got it in trade for changing a camshaft and lifters on a 1974 MGB. Came with synthetic furniture and another longer barrel. I just recently replaced the synthetic with wood. Wanted the ribbed forearm but couldn't find one at the time.

Got the M500 ATP in today gang:

It's really nice. Only thing wrong was the safety button came in two pieces, busted. Not to worry as I have a safety replacement kit on the way. Also some knucklehead screwed some ugly sling swivels into the girl including directly into the forearm! Not so good, they're now gone but there are a couple holes in the wood. I plan to add a standard swivel to the rear and repair the front with a little wood putty and stain. Overall condition is real good, made in around 1983 from what the serial number is telling me. Internals are in fine condition with no rust and little wear. Reminds me of my old cut down Winchester Model 12 in looks but it's lighter and even handier. This little ATP should make a fine house gun and scratches the itch for an older style wood stocked riot gun. :)
