m48 shoots really high

Finally got to shoot my m48 and was dismayed to find out that it shoots about 8" high at 100 yds. I asked about it on TUCO's forum and got three different answers. One guy said it might be because my two lugbolts might be loose. Which was true. In order for me to use the lock screws, I had to back off on the lugscrews to line the notches up. So, I did as he suggested and left the lock screws "open" and tightened the lugscrews all the way.
Another guy says to replace the front post with a taller one (makes sense), because they designed it to shoot high.
One other fellow says to switch to 150 gr. bullets because the 196 gr. bullets don't leave the barrel before the muzzle begins to rise.
So now I have three different theories to attack my problem.
Anyone care to add any more?

I did get decent groups though, 2-3" at 100 yds, just around eight inches high.

I won't be able to make it to the range for a couple of weeks, so I have time to cover all the bases before my next trip out there.
I was wondering if any one has had a similar experience and what they did to correct it.

I have owned a few Mausers as well and they all shoot a little high at 100 yards, especially the M48 I've shot. I would suggest the higher front sight post. Also, you might want to try different bullet weights as well. Shooting high can be a combination of different factors. Sounds like the folks at Tuco's gave you some good advice.

The front sight post can be purchsed from Brownell's for less than $20.

battle sights on most older military rifles are set for 200 or 300 yd zero so that center of mass aim will get a hit from point-blank to 400 yds or so.

Heck, I thought you were talking about the 90mm or 105mm gun on a 1950's production U.S. MBT!

Yeah, that's it JimR. I wanna use it fer my squirrel gun (my deer gun is sitting on the deck of the USS Missouri) :D.

I do feel a lot better now, knowing that my rifle was meant to shoot high, but since I really don't plan on going to battle with it, I do plan on getting my POI to math my POA.

I emailed the guy at MOJO Sights, and he says his aperture sight does indeed adjust lower than the stock setup. I'll be ordering one ASAP.

Thanks guys
