M48 Mauser final disassembly

The Mauser de-cosmoline project is going nicely. Thanks to a 01-19-2001 post by Noban, I've got it almost completly disassembled. I only have two parts left that I would like to remove but can't figure out how:

1) Front site: I removed the pin, but the spring underneath still applies enough pressure that I can't get it to back out.

2) Butt plate: I removed the two screws, but the butt plate won't budge. This part is no big deal, but I would like to remove it if possible.

Thanks for any advice on how to get these parts out.

Glad it's working out for you! I'll have to think a little on the front sight, but try this for the butt plate. With the rifle held firmly horizontaly and action up, strike the top of the butt plate with a rubber mallet, hitting at an angle that is front to rear. Do this a number of times and you will seel the plate pull away from the stock. Flip the rifle over and repeat. You now should be able to gently tap the plate off using a brass punch.
