I have a box of M41 .38 cal ammo, is this 38 special or 38 S&W? Given to me by friend, no markings on the bottom of casings, manufactured by Olin. Thanks is advance.

M41 is the military 38 Spl Ball ammo that was issued normaly to pilots who used the 38 Model 10s in leu of the 1911a1. (Army that is, I think the AF used Model 15s).

Its ok ammo I guess but not the most accurate I've shot.

Some AC crews used light weight revolvers and they worked good in those, its not a hot load, more of a standard Med Pressure 38, using FMJ round nose bullets.

I have pulled some of the bullets and stuffed them in hoter 357s to play with in shooting Pistol Metalic Shil. They worked better at knocking over the steel targets then cast or soft point bullets.

Good practice ammo but in my opinion a FMJ round nose 38 wouldnt be the best for self defence.

They are safe to shoot in any normal quality 38 pistol, if thats what you're asking.
