M24/47 Mauser

Mosin-Marauder

New member
Welcome the new addition to my C&R collection!

This is my new M24/47 Mauser. Got it for Christmas today. The numbers don't match but the bore, metal, and wood are in excellent condition. The bore is practically new and it has about 95% bluing. It took me a whopping 4 hours to get it as clean as it is now. And it still needs to be cleaned a bit more near the extractor and the chamber.

I couldn't believe how immaculate the bluing was. It looks practically new. I also received 140 rounds of Turkish 8mm surplus (2 bandoliers with brass stripper clips.

Here it is with the other warhorses! I'm going to clean it a bit more, then do a final once over. Thank you for reading, hope you all had a Merry Christmas, and feel free to share what you got aswell! :D

The M24/47's were re-arsenaled, stashed in the armories and never issued. They make great shooters, and should be part of every collection.

Bought one for my son a couple of years ago. Bought some Prvi 8mm M75 sniper ammo (REALLY good stuff, when you can find it) and he brought it along on one of our trips to the 1000 yard range. We don't shoot much with iron sights, just our milsurps occasionally, but he dialed up the rear sight to 600 and took aim at a truck tire at that distance. The shots were spot-on, center of the tire as I looked through the spotting scope.

Have fun with it, it's no K-31, but you won't be disappointed. Let us know how she shoots.

Sweet.

My 24/47 is about the only rifle that I've "gotten rid of" that I regret. It was the the most beat up, but best shooting, 8x57mm rifle that has been through my family; even though the rifling just looked like lumpy abnormalities in the bore, and the entire length of the bore was pock-marked and pitted like the face of the moon.

Mine wasn't exactly sold, though. It was rendered unsafe to fire, due to an unfortunate incident, and was stripped for parts before the action was used as a target. :(
I miss it so much, that I still have the barrel and a few pieces of the action floating around here... (along with the stripped parts that I haven't given away, of course.)

One of these days, I'm going to have someone thread the chamber and turn a breech plug for me, so that I can use that 8mm barrel on a muzzle loader. ;)

Looks like a nice collection you are building yourself there!

I love Mausers. I'm in the middle of cleaning up a CZ of 1930's vintage right now myself.

Congradulations!

Hi Mo,
The 24/47 has an excellent reputation for accuracy. Be advised the Turkish surplus 8mm is corrosive and HOT. Wear thy safety glasses, inspect before hand, as the brass is brittle and can crack.
Best,
Rob

If you use that corrosive ammunition, the pour hot soapy water down the bore. This will dissolve the salts. Scrub it like a blackpowder muzzle loader (use a jag with a patch) to help pump the water in and out. Then rinse with hot water.

Afterward, dry & clean the barrel as normal with regular solvent and brush followed by patches soaked in cleaning solvent. Then after drying, and oiled patch to preserve the bore.
