M1a

Y'all have about 120 minutes to tell me why I shouldn't stop by my shop today at noon and pick up a NIB Springfield Armory M1A, standard grade with highly figured dark walnut stock, for $1,199 plus tax.

Am I a fool? Or is it about time?

This is my first centerfire rifle. I plan to purchase a Bushmaster XM15-E2S in a few months, so I'll have a .223 too. Plus, I just joined a club with a 100-yard range and a 500-yard alley, with markers at 200 and 300 yards.

So, any input? Thanks.

There is no reason not to buy that rifle. Good price, outstanding weapon. To quote Darth Vader:

"Luke! It is pointless to resist! It is your DESTINY!" :)

Get it. The M14/M1A is still hands-down my favorite, if-I-could-only-have-one, rifle. I have had one for years (built it up myself),
and IMO, it still beats any other. Get the Bushmaster, too. I'm a
fairly recent convert to the magic of the Black Rifle (even tho I was
issued one for a long time in the Army, it took a while for me to
take to the thing), and both are great guns.

That's a great rifle! Just don't forget to pick up at least 10-20 mags too! $50/each..ouch! But the prices are only going to get worse...:(

Get this one! No, no, that one! Wait! Over here! AHHHHHHHHH!:D

Happened to me today. I went to the gunstore to get some clips for a M1 Garand I bought. There were 2 more M1`s there beckoning. Plus a pre ban M1A for $999. NOOOOOO!

Don't let us down.

It is your duty as a patriotic American to buy that rifle. Don't let TFL or America down. Make haste.

Thanks all!:) It's in my safe as we speak. I'm reading the manual, and will probably run some PMC through it on Sunday. Next stop: Coles for a few 20-rounders, and Fulton Armory for some tools, books, and maybe a USGI gas plug.

What horror!

I can't believe there are still places in this great country where you can go down to the gun shop and buy a rifle just like that. I hate the PRK!

Good choise LBC! Sweet purchase.
I'm getting a Springfield M1A myself, soon. Thinking of going with a NIB Super Match for $1300.
Tell me one thing, is that the most perfectly balanced rifle you've ever held or what?? :)

Did you say a NIB Supermatch for one thousand three hundred dollars? You had better keep that source to yourself, or there will be hungry mobs on your heels...

Re: the balance. Yes, that's what sold me on the rifle -- that and the .308 cartridge, the 20-round magazines, and the excellent sights. I handled some FN-FAL copies and, while nice, they just didn't sit the same in my hands. I didn't care for the tiny sights, and I felt my left hand position on the FN-FAL forearm was too far forward. I bought the walnut stocked M1A because my cheek felt so warm and soft sitting on the wood! :) Can't say the same for their crinkle finish plastic GI stock! Bringing the rifle up to my shoulder, the sights are just "there." Good safety, nice two-stage trigger.

Ewok_guy, are you serious? $1300? The national match m1a's occasionally sell for that price, but just occasionally. The super matches seem to be pushing $2000. Is the dealer markup that much?

By all means buy that M-1A or you will live to regret it. That rifle will become your favorite center fire rifle, mine has become by favorite.

Woo-hoo! Just fired 20 rounds PMC 168-gr. FMJ-BT this afternoon. What a beautiful gun. The sights seem to be pretty well regulated right out of the box -- I was hitting about 3 inches high at 100 yards, but windage was right on. The recoil is almost non-existant. I will try shooting another 20 or 50 rounds this week to bring the sights down -- it may have been the rest I was shooting off of. No failures to feed or eject. All in all a very enjoyable rifle. I would call the recoil "enjoyable," and the sound of the action cycling ... SWEET! :)
