M1A ?'s Muzzlebreak and weight

Come hell or high water I'm going to get one of these this week.
But why does the scout come with the muzzle break, when all the other models get to keep the flash hider? Why does the shorter Scout weigh more than the full size models?

Hopefully the Scout doesn't come with a "broken" muzzle. I think it comes with a muzzle brake instead.

I thought that Scouts were available with flash hiders or brakes, but a quick check on the SA website proved me wrong. I assume that they are marketing it as a more PC rifle.

As far as weight goes, I see that there's a .1 pound increase for the scout...doesn't make sense.

About one month ago I saw a NIB post-ban M1A Scout with flash hider for sale at Discount Firearms in Las Vegas, NV. The receiver S/N was 13XXXX. The M1A Scout has a thicker and shorter barrel than the standard model M1A. I don't know this as fact but it appears to me that SA shortens medium-weight match barrels by four inches to produce the Scout barrels. The standard model M1A has a USGI chrome-lined barrel.

If need be, buy the M1A Scout with the muzzle brake then replace the muzzle brake with a post-ban flash hider. Use of the flash suppressor nut pliers is recommended in swapping these parts. You will also need a very small (1/16" ?) hex head wrench for the flash suppressor nut set screw and a larger (1/8" ?) hex head wrench for the front sight. Of course, be careful not to damage the end of the barrel.

s'ok. The "muzzle break" thing is a pet peeve...I can't help it. Sometimes I have to take prescription blood pressure medication before I log onto TFL.

Ok, so I'm kidding a little... :)

I like the muzzle break!

If it weren't for the muzzle break, I would have a PRK assault weapon. Thanks to the muzzle break I didn't have to register my rifle! Not like I was going to register it anyway.

Right on El Rojo! A friend of mine didn't like the The SA muzzel brake, I forget what muzzel brake he got though, He has the M1A national Match with chrome barrel, what a beuty, it is really accurate too, shot a sniper(ok ok a piece of chrome medal, hey, it looked liked a scopes lenses, i can't help it!) out of a tree at 240yrds uphill.

The extra weight comes from the very solid scope mount on the front of the rifle. It is a 2-pc construction that wraps arount the barrel & held togeter with allen screws.
