M1A/M14 in .223??

I heard a rumor (again, rumor only, so don't start ripping on me and telling me I'm spreading it like fact, I'm not.) but I heard someone say that Springfield is thinking about making an M1A in a .223.

Can anybody confirm or deny??

I would love to have an M1A in a .223, kind of like Papa M1A, and Mama M1A.

And _PLEASE_ don't tell me they already have it, it's called a Ruger Mini-14, because that would just be insulting Betty, my M1A if you call a Mini-14 a smaller version of her.. She's beautiful, and 1/2MOA...

So if there is such a gun being made, I want one!!

Question: If there isn't, is there heavy interest in one? Because, I'm sick of my job, and was thinking about doing a CAD design of the M1A into a .223..

Personally I really wouldn't care for a .223 chambering in a battle rifle. This is because it would be heavy for a .223 and would have 10 round mags (unless they adapted it to use AR mags). It seems to me it would be like putting a 4 cylinder in a dually...

I had not heard that Springfield was thinking of doing this.

Frankly, I don't think it will fly. As stated previously, we are stuck with 10 round mags-unless it is developed to use an existing mag platform. It would be a heavy .223, and I don't think people would want to spend the $1,000.00 plus that Springfield would ultimately ask when AR15s and others start out around $700.00.

Just my opinion though, take it for what it is worth.
 
I would not want an M1A chambered in 223.

However, if you shortened it, lightened it up a lot, and kind of made it into what the Mini 14 should have been, then it might be a viable option.
 
If we're talking about a rifle that is what the mini should have been I would buy one. I have thought about such a rifle for several years. The only problems I can see here are the lack of magazines and the likely high price of a Springfield product. OTOH, if it is well made and priced competitively with the average AR I might buy one even if 10 rnd mags are all that is available.
