M1A Lube

Just acquired a Springfield M1A, have not shot it yet. A buddy at work told me that I have to "grease" it in (I think) 4 spots before I fire it or it will ruin it. Can anyone tell me what the heck he's talking about because he wasn't of much help. Thanks.

Hi BW,

Your friend is right. The lube spots are the bolt lugs and where the bolt connects to the operating rod.

I'd also grease the bolt lugs, the tail of the firing pin, the operating rod spring guide, and the web of the receiver. Also a drop of oil on the hammer/sear, pivot pins for hammer and sear and trigger.
