M1A, grease question... Am I making a mistake?

Well, last night I field stipped my M1a for the first time to be certain it was greased and lubed correctly before firing. These are simple rifles! It took me a little while to learn how to remove and reinstall the oprod, but I now know for next time. Anyway, I live a ways from anything, and the only gease I could find was automotive type. So, I went ahead and used it to lube all metal to metal contact areas, and used a light CLP coat on the remainder. Will this auto grease harm anything? The bottle says auto and industrial applications. Thanks.

oddly enough...

I was just at the gunshop the other day, asking for grease for the roller-bit. And guess what -- auto grease is exactly what they recommended I go get! Looks like you're ahead of the game already.

Don't forget to get plenty of grease into the bolt's roller bearing. Brownell's and Champion's Choice sell a neat little device that forces grease into the bearing.

The stuff designed to be used in a M-1 is what they sell to be used in wheel bearings in vehicles now.
