M1A Gas Piston pitting

I took my M1A apart for the second time today to clean the gas system. The rifle is about six months old.

The "D" shaped part of the gas piston is covered with pitting and dark marks. The round part is clean and shiny.

I ordered another gas piston from Fulton Armory cause I'm afraid this one is shot.

Anyone else have this happen?

Are you still shooting those blackpowder reloads?

Just wanted to move this thread up the list, 'cause I gotta hear the responses too. I looked at this gas piston today and it's truly a mess. It's as pitted as an old Turkish mauser barrel, in just a few months.
