I just bought a Springfield Armory M1A and their 3rd generation scope mount. I want to mount a Leupold 8.5-25x50mm. It has a 30mm tube. Does anyone know how high the rings have to be to clear the objective lens?

Thanks, fish.

Put the scope mount on the rifle and put the rifle on the bed/couch on it's side and put the scope above it to simulate where it should be. This should give you a very rough idea of how tall the rings have to be to clear. If the scope ring dealer has them in stock, then you can measure the rise (if I have my terms right) and see if it's right. Beats gettin home, opening it up and trying it just to find out that it's "oooooppppppps"..... That's how I would do it...... a little funny, isn't it.....

I had a heck of a time mounting a 50mm OB lens scope on my Mini 14. I had to use the extra high (or was it extra extra high????) scope mounts.

Good luck....... (Gonna have to scope my 'new' old M1A pre ban also....... when I get the chance and $$$).

(Edited since I neglected to read the original post carefully....... )
