M16A1 Parts Kit w/ AR15 lower

Yes it is possible. Requires metal working skills as it is not simply "drop in".

And unless you have the proper federal license/SOT to manufacture machineguns, totally illegal in the United States.

He means a full auto M16A1 parts kit into a semi-automatic AR-15 lower.

With the exception of the bolt carrier (and possibly pin hole size), there is no difference in a "M16" upper and an "AR-15" upper.

He could always just buy one of those DIAS's that have been advertised in just about every issue of Shotgun News for years now for about $150.

Not that is a sting or anything. :D

Hasn't the BATF&E arrested people who own an AR15 and also an M16 "parts kit?"

I think they call it, constructive possession ... or something along those lines.

It used to be, if you had an AR and any M16 parts in it (unless they were modified to Colt SP1 configuration), you were considered to be in violation of the NFA.

Your safest bet if youre not sure, is to skip the internet expert opinions, and call your local office of the ATF and ask. Dont call DC, start local. If they dont know the answer, which I'm pretty sure they will, they will refer you. The local people were always helpful for me. They just seemed to get grumpier and less knowing as you got closer to the DC area code.

You CAN put them together, but the lack of a sear pin hole, you won't be able to put them all in. Furthermore, the ATF's idea of "constructive possession" makes ownership of such things together rather hazy.

Personally, without a legally owned M16, the only M16-specific part I'm willing to have under my roof is the bolt carrier. I want nothing to do with the trigger group.
