M14 Stripper Clip Question

I just acquired some 5 rd stripper clips for reloading mags both in and out of my M1A. There's no problem getting the first 10 rds in, but after that I'm having trouble getting the next 5 or 10 rds in. I'm using relatively new mags, so the springs are strong. What is happening is the first round (#11 in the mag) will go in, but the remaining rounds will pop out of the stripper clip. I push down fast or slow, strong or weak, with the same result.

One friend suggested using powdered graphite on the inside of the mag to reduce the spring friction.

Anyone else had this problem and come up with a solution or a suggestion?

A question-
where are you applying pressure to the top round?
I would push as close to the stripper clip as possible. That is toward the back of the cartridge. Check to see if clips were damaged when the rounds poped out.

By the way, will 8mm clips work with .308 rounds? Will they work with an M-14?

You are using 20 round magazines aren't you? It's a dumb question, but sometimes it's the stupid stuff that gets you. M1As come with 10 round magazines.

Yes you can put .308's in 8mm strippers (I've used them in my FR-8); no 8mm's will not work in an M1A or M14, the little bumps on the sides are in the wrong place (sigh).

Yes, I am applying pressure closest to the stripper clip. There is no apparent damage to the clip, but I've used 25+ different clips (all new) with the same result. Yes, they are 20 (twenty) round mags.
