M14 Spring Guide Shoots Loose

I was at the range today happily punching holes in paper with my SEI-rebuilt polytech M14 when a funny thing happened. The little pin and peg deal that holds the spring-guide / front mag-latch wiggled itself all the way to the port side, and when I removed the mag the spring-guide deal slid into the magwell, preventing the rifle from being reloaded with another mag.

I fixed it easily enough, just took it down, pushed the guide back into place, and slid the little doodad back over to retain it. However, it was annoying, and I do not wish it to happen again.

The little retaining doodad slides around quite easily; how do I get it to stay securely in the starboard position holding the spring-guide in place?

 Is it worn or something? Never had that happen before. Wish I had more to offer, but I hope you get it sorted out soon.

Are you using a USGI stock with the Poly? Two trains of thought about it. There should be enough pressure from the spring to hold the pin in place, however, if the connector lock is chinese, it will be shorter than one that is USGI. Sometimes people neglect to remember that if using a GI stock with a Poly, you'll need a longer connector lock.(USGI) A quick fix if it is a Chinese connector lock would be to glue a piece of wood on the inside of the stock where the connector lock protrudes. That would keep the pin from traveling.

What Hawk said. Just glue a piece of wood in the stock to act as a stop for the connector lock. That well stop it from sliding over and releasing the op-rod spring guide.

It does indeed have a USGI stock, and the locking piece is still chinese as far as I can tell.

What variety of wood and glue should I use? Any tips on this procedure would be great, I am not much of a woodworker.

Thanks!

Heh. That sounds like it may land squarely within my cubscout-level woodworking skillset. :D

I'll give it a go. Thanks again.
