M14 Mag problem (USGI)

Howdy all!

Quick question.. I recently bought a few USGI mags for my M14, and one of them seems to be acting up. Rounds 4, 5, and 6 (give or take) out of the mag get stuck. The follower bends over at just enough of an angle so that as the bolt comes forward, the rounds would be pushed into the forward mag wall instead of being stripped off. First few rounds out and every round after the sorry three feeds no problem.

SO... is this a spring/follower problem, ya think, and if so is there a place I can by replacement parts to see if that solves the problem?

Thanks!

Are the mags new?

Reason I ask is I just got some new ones from Coles and I haven`t been able to try them yet. Too durn hot!

Kaylee,

Is the mag straight??

Are there any dents on the sides of the mag body that could cause the follower to act up??

If you answer "yes" to the first 1, "no" to the second, then I'd suggest taking it apart, cleaning it, oiling it, then re-assemble and try again.

Could be there is just some crud causing the problem.

Just my 2 pence,

I had a BRAND new one do the same thing Kaylee, I thought maybe by breaking it in it would fix the problem. But, like with any mag from any rifle, if it screws up enough... it's just got something wrong with it and who knows what it was. Problem is, with M14 mags you can't really throw them away (like FAL or AR) and load up another one- just cost too much!
You might try the rebuild. I shelved mine though I never use it. I just don't have the gall to throw it away.

I experienced the same with a USGI mag. Turned out that the front wall of the mag was ever so slightly dented in, causing the follower to drag. I was able to coach the dent out and the mag is fine.

I'll offer $9.95 for mags that don't respond to your attempts to fix 'em. Have no idea whether I fix 'em, so all risk is me.

Don't laugh--I bought my new USGI in the wrapper mags in 1986 at $7.95 each! Didn't get enough. Made one into a very short five-rounder...

I'm still trying to coax one squished mag into behaving well.
