M14/M1A spares - are they still being made?

I have a springfield M1A on order, and was wondering with all i read - are these parts still being made or are they just military leftovers?

Eventual gun bans aside, will they keep making spares for these, or do I have to spend a ton buying spare parts now that I may or may not use?

thanks,
Battler.

Not sure what your question is, but a NIB M1A from SA is a newly manufactured receiver. I would guess that all the other parts are newly manufactured too. My $.02

Battler, most items in new M1As are new manufacture...the receiver, bolt, op rod, trigger assy, and gas system. Most times they are 100% interchangeable with USGI stuff.

Those military leftovers (USGI) are usually the parts most M1A afficionados prefer in their guns. Springfield is making new reproduction parts as the USGI supplies dry up or become too costly. They are found in current production guns. I agree with the responses above. I got a reply from Tracy in the Customer Service department at Springfield Armory recently regarding the operating rods they use. I followed up with a phone call. They told me that they make their own operating rods using the same manufacturing process the government Springfield Armory used.

Sometimes you will be fortunate. My standard M1A that was assembled in December, 1999 came with a USGI barrel, gas cylinder, operating rod spring guide, and hammer.

Best prices on GI parts is from www.odcmp.com You have to belong to a Shooting Club to be able to buy from them. Alternately, try to get the parts on auction at eBay or www.gunbroker.com Failing that, try www.fulton-armory.com

My standard M1A that was assembled in 1998 and came with all USGI parts cept the receiver and I am very happy about it..

Thanks guys - I just wanted to make sure there'd always be a steady supply for good parts.

Mags is a different story - they REALLY need to make one that takes $6.50 new 20round fal mags instead of $50 new M1A mags.
