m14 bolt

It sounds like it might be gas cutting from blown primers. Most M14 firing pins are chromed. Some early ones are not.Make certain it's not just dried up old oil and crap from not being disassembled for a long time.Is the firing pin hole in the face of the bolt nice and round? Is the face of the bolt smooth?

I think Wayne is correct. If it is corroded and bolt face is pitted change out the firing pin.
I suggest after each shooting session soak the bolt in solvent to keep crud off the bolt and then use high pressure air to clean off the solvent and oil with very light oil. I use white lithium grease on the bearing.

Probably shot a lot of corrosive ammo at one time and the bolt was not cleaned. Firing pins are cheap, get two and keep a spare.

If it is just some surface corrosion you could still use it.

i disassembled it trying to figure out why I was having misfires and noticed the firing pin being corroded. The bolt face is just fine, and who ever said not to disassemble it because it never needed cleaning lied.

Pvt! You have dis-honored your di!

Did I NOT tell you how to DETAIL your RIFLE! A CORRODED FIRING PIN!!

Drop and give ME FIFTY for NOT Detailing your RIFLE and FIFTY more for NOT FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS!

GET some "DILL Pipe cleaners, (with stiff bristles amongst the others) and detail that FP channel and replace the FP with new, that's lightly lube with THIN film of grease.

well... having another problem with my ol' faithful. I took it to the gun range..and it aparently had an identity change without giving any warning and turned its self into a bolt action. And something had caused the bolt to seize in the firing position. I was firing german surp. This is the first time this had happen after the 1000s or german mil surp as well as bear and wolf... any ideas???

Screw slot vertical for passing GAS,

slot horizontal for manual operation.

What type chamber in barrel? NATO mil-spec or SAMMI

If using German ammo and SAMMI then may have pulled the extractor rim off case and need to ease cleaning rod down muzzle to push case out of chamber!!
