M1 Garand introduction

Well, I found my rifle for life. I went to a gun exchange to purchase another rifle and while waiting for the clerk, I happened to notice an SA M1 hiding amongst the bolt action rifles. I RAN over to it and picked it from the rack only to find that it was a 1945 issue and in great condition. It couldn't believe it!! It is like something you only read about. Seems it was sold to the shop only days before. So, I replaced the rifle that thought it was going home with me and bought the M1. I'm just thrilled

I had a change to wring it out last week and was able to keep them all in the black while off hand shooting at 100 yards! This is like heaven to me, guys and girls. I can clearly see why we won the war, frankly. The Garand is simply the slickest thing in the weapons market. You can take all your .223 machines and chuck them with this beauty. The 30-06 round does it all and very accurately, too. If you've never shot one, it is hard to describe. Everything works just as it is supposed to work and aquiring the target after each shot is a breeze, even with an 11 pound rifle.

Take it from me....a newbie in the area of rifles but someone who has shot a number of bolts and SAs from both sides: the M1 is the rifle to own and shoot. What a Christmas present I bought myself!

It's true that they feel indescribably nice when firing one. I guess it is a combination of the weight, length, history and neat ding/clanking sound when the clip ejects. There's no doubt they were and still are a great rifle.

Welcome to the club Rome! I first started shooting them in the early to mid 60's. We were using the NM versions on the various High Power teams that I was a memeber of. I went through so many different rifles since then, but it was not until late last year that I suffered a relapse of an infection the got in my blood when I first fired one. Once they get in your blood thats it, you are infected for life, but damn its a good infection :D. Yea I sucumbed to that infection too............bought one.

Yep, it just screamed out at you, "Take me home! Daddy! Take me home!" Can't fault you for what you did and all the better if it's in great shape. I'm a proud owner of several Garands and have never regretted.

Rome - Welcome to the wonderful world of Garands! Carlyle is dead on... the rifle just gets in your blood.

The first time I hefted mine, I just thought "Man, oh man, this is what a rifle SHOULD be."

I'm sure you both will spend many happy hours together.

The M1 was my service rifle. I have owned or fired many other full/semi auto rifles, FN 49, G.43, G.41(W), G.41(M), G3, FAL, T25, M14, M1A, AR-15, AR-180, M16, etc. But the M1 works and there is never any doubt that anything standing in front of it will be in a world of hurt.

Incidentally, to an ex-GI, it is always simply "the M1". Only civilians call it a Garand, and if we mean M1 Carbine, we say M1 carbine.
