Hey guys an M1 carbine came in the shop and i dont know what it is. It says U.s carbine 30 cal on the breech and has no other markings besides the serial number. What do you guys think.

Get some detail pictures if possible and post them. Hard to make a judgment without seeing it.

How much $ are they asking for it?

The manufacturer and serial number on a GI carbine is on the top of the rear of the reciever...it is often covered by the rear sight...

There was also a commercial maker who put their name on the side of the reciever.

And many years ago, Plainfield had some M1 carbines stolen that were sterile - no marks of any kind. The Government notified all the dealers in the area (which is how I found out). It was a contract for "the people who don't exist."

If the gun is in for repair, it may not be possible to "stay away from it", but be aware that while the first Universals used mostly GI parts, later ones used parts that deviated considerably from the military model and may not be available.
