M1 Carbine Failure to Feed

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum, and hope I'm following the rules correctly.

I just recently purchased an M1 Carbine, and am having a bit of trouble. The rifle was made by National Ordinance, and yes, I know, USGI, CMP etc etc.

Anyway.. I picked up the last 250 rounds of Remington 30 Carbine that the local Academy had in stock while waiting on the rilfe to arrive. Yesterday I go to shoot the rifle and find the ammunition I bought will not chamber. The bullet tip will go in, but stops at the jacket. The gun is obviously used and shows wear, but how if the round won't chamber?

I've been trying to search to find answers or records of this happening, and cannot. I am to the conclusion the chamber is too small, and haven't been to a gunsmith because the locals are closed.

Can anyone chime in and maybe help me out? I appreciate any info or help!
 
Can you load a round into the chamber by hand (singly)? If so, the chamber size is OK, and you may need a new magazine. If not, you probably have an obstruction of some sort in the chamber. It is tough to see on a carbine because you can't easily access the breech end of the barrel.

No, even trying to load a round individually doesn't work. The chamber is clear, i.e. I can see from muzzle to bolt.

It could be possible there is a broken shell inside the chamber. I'll have to strip it down to find out.

The magazine fed fine until the bullet became stuck, and I'm certain it's not chambered for 22.

Like I said though, the bullet tip will go in but the brass stops at the chamber. Thanks for the ideas, I'll get to work stripping it down now.
