It seems to me that awhile back I was hearing/reading about some outfit converting M1 carbines to .45 WIN MAG. Anybody remember who was doing that, or have any experiance with one of the conversions?
Universal made them up in .44 magnum, but they required a special plastic single stack magazine to function reliably. The really tricky part of this kind of conversion to a larger, high intensity round is getting the gas orfice drilled to the correct diameter to function the action. (It is at an awkward angle, the drill bit enters and encounters the rifling, and it is fatally easy to snap the end off. That even happened to david Williams.)
There was a company in Fenton, MI that was doing the conversions. I can not remember the name however. I do know that they had problems with locking lugs shearing off the bolts.
