M1 Carbine calibers

Anyone have any information about a FAMAE model 1941 carbine (FM-41) chambered in a shortened .276 Pedersen cartridge (7x36). What other calibers were considered for the M1 besides the 5.7 spitfire? Thanks

There was a company that offered rebarreled..

Carbines in 9mm WIn Magnum & .45 WIn Magnum, back in the 80's.

No other calibers, that I recall.

The M1 Carbine was ordered by the Ordnance Board as it came, in 30 M1 Carbine, it was never "tested" (as were most new weapons systems", nor was the cartridge " developed" (it was just designed and produced).

As far as other chamberings for the M1 Carbine itself, I know of the 5.7 Spitfire (as you noted, developed in the 1960s), a 25 caliber cartridge (also developed in the 1960s), a .27 caliber cartridge I saw at a gun show years ago, 9mm Parabellum, the 9mm Win Mag and 45 Win Mag already mentioned, and some 45ACP M1 Carbines marketed in the 1970s. I am sure that the 30 Carbine case has been necked to just about every possible caliber, and the Mi Carbine itself has been chambered for just about every cartridge people could fit into its frame, so a 7mm cartridge does not surprise me in the least. Remember that M1 Carbines were just about given away by the CMP for many years, and that people like to play.

You would have to shorten a 276 Pedersen considerably in order to fit it into an M1 Carbine, so much in fact that it would be an entirely different cartridge.
