M&P9 Failure to feed

Mt brother just bought an M&P9. Took it out today, and we encountered multiple FTF issues. We noticed the magazines were difficult to unload, and the rounds seemed to hang up while pushing the rounds out of the magazine. Once we ran it, the issues were less frequent. Hopefully it's just a break in issue. The gun was cleaned and lubed prior to shooting. Any ideas?

leave the mags fully loaded for a few weeks, the spring will weaken a bit and be easier to load. M&Ps are like Glocks, subject to limp wristing because of the low weight, try this grip. If you were running 115 grain ammo, it's more likely to act than 125s or 147s

I told him to leave the mags loaded. As for limp wristing, three different people had the FTF issue. We used a mix of ammo as all three of us brought different brands. CCI, Remington, and Winchester.

Sounds mag related. Clean, deburr and lube the mags. Rounds should freely slide out of the magazine. My 7 and 8 rd mags are smooth as glass sliding a bullet out of a fully loaded mag.

The mags were not cleaned, as it was a brand new gun. They didn't appear to have any grease on them.

While you might not see preservative on the mags, that doesn't mean it isn't there. It's good practice to clean and lube your magazines at regular intervals. In my experience, dry magazines may not work!

I had the same problem with the same gun. It never resolved so I made the pistol go away. I had an XDS that did it too. It's no longer with me either. No more S&W and Springfield pistols for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they make good stuff, I just didn't happen to end up with any of it.
