I just heard about this new version. Looks like S&W stepped up the game a bit.

Sorry if this is old news, but it's the first I've heard of the new model.

I knew it was coming, but not when...

A different trigger, I would like to try one. Though my m&p with an apex kit is excellent, and I polished up my Pro model trigger to be pretty nice as well.

They removed the beaver tail... I am not liking that.

Recontoured slide is neat, but I liked the old design fine.

And what is that tab of metal right in front of the slide stop? That's new...

This is a let down...

The grip looks like it is probably pretty nice.

What's with the holes in the dust cover? I like the beaver tail in the standard model. Removing it was a mistake. The forward serrations are a joke. If they wanted to add them, they should have done them like the m&p 45.

It almost reminds me of the Ruger American. That's not a good thing. Heh.

+1. (+2?) This seems like a definite step backwards. I wonder if the reason is complaints from LE agencies about it catching on stuff when the pistol is holstered.

I speculate that it decocks the striker so the user doesn't have to stick a tool into the open ejection port and flip down the little lever. This seemed to be a common complaint online, although I never understood it; do other people not have pens and pencils laying around everywhere?

More seriously, this may be related to military contract requirements that the pistol must be able to be field stripped without pulling the trigger or using tools.

I speculate that they're for some newfangled type of retention holster.

I didn't notice the missing beaver tail until it was pointed out here. My first M&P was a compact without the beaver tail so I never felt it was something I needed. I always thought a full size version without it would be a nice option.

The button in front of the slide release is probably a decocker. It's only on the left side of the frame, which is of note on an otherwise ambidextrous pistol.

The tan model appears to have an extra crosspin above the extractor. I wonder what that's about.

The dustcover cutouts are weird. They are present on both sides of the frame, which suggests there might be more function than just displaying the serial. Might be cool if it allowed for a universal weapon light holster.

The forward slide serrations are silly. They look almost like a machining accident or something.
