Want to get another 22lr for plinking.

really wanted a full size, but rumors say the compact is a better gun.

Any insights?

Thanks.

I have the full size and I really like it. People talk about the fullsize because it's made by Umarex... but it's got an aluminum slide, not Zamak potmetal.

I went with the full size because it shares holsters and ergonomics with my M&P 9. They're identical in size, so everything is a smooth transition.

My M&P 22 is the only I currently own or have ever owned that has never had a single failure and I am approaching 3,000 rounds through it now and that is about 90% bulk ammo from Winchester, Remington, and Federal. I've been very surprised by the gun. It's a great shooter. I did remove the safety levers so it matched my M&P 9.

I do want to get the compact, but really that's largely just because I like the full size so much.

I'm sure either of them will serve you just fine. If you don't need/want compatibility with the larger caliber brothers, then the compact is probaby a good choice, too.

I bought my M&P 22 full size back before the compact was available, but if given the option now I would still buy the full size. The gun has worked flawlessly since I purchased it, and I like the fact that it is the same size as a centerfire M&P.

I have both the Walther made full size and the Compact, I feel the Compact is a much better pistol ergonomically as it is an easier package to hold, holster and shoot. The S&W made Compact is every it as accurate as the full sized (these are not target pistols) but seems to point a lot easier. I have a fiber optic front sight on my full size that I like a lot and hopefully soon there will be a replacement for the Compact. Both pistols are quite reliable, I have experienced a few malfunctions with the FS and none with the Compact. I attribute the problems to ammo and take into consideration the FS has fired four times the ammo as the Compact ( but it is catching up)! If I were to have just one I would want it to be the Compact.

From what I read, the compact has less problems with various ammo.

Also, there are some crucial parts on the full size that are plastic instead of metal? The safety and take down lever?

Take down lever is not plastic. The safety levers are high strength plastic, but you're certainly not going to break them off. I pulled my fire control unit up and out of the frame and pulled the safety levers out with a pair of pliers though. No safety on my M&P 9, didn't want any safety on the 22 version either.

I have regular size hands. Will the compact be too small? Looking at the SR22, I don't think I'd like the feel.

Held the compact briefly in a gun shop and kind of liked the grip and weight.

I wish the full size will be updated soon by Smith&Wesson

Get the size that fits you best. I have read many many positive reviews of the full size M&P 22. I was tempted to buy one but now am looking hard at the Walther PPQ .22. I have no interest in these scaled down size models. I tried the Ruger SR22 and did not like it at all.

Here are Buds reviews of M&P full size 22. 39 of 40 (36 five star ratings) OWNERS report to extremely happy with it.

I am sure either will fit me well.

I like the compact, since it's made here and released later (supposedly better quality...). But I hate to be seen with a small pistol, kind of girly. It fits well though.

The full size looks really nice, but I haven't had a chance to hold it. It should make one feel like a bigger man?

what's a fair price for the full size and the compact?

the best I can get is $350 after all fees and stuff for the full size and $340 for the compact.
