M&P 15-22 Optics

I have an M&P 15-22 performance center on order and am exploring my optics options. I've read a bunch and done some shopping and narrowed the choices to 1) Bushnell TSR 25 (around $90, without riser), 2) Primary Arms microdot ($158, with mount), and 3) Vortex Sparc ($199). I'm not going over $200 for this, and plan on plinking at 50 and 100 yds and eventually using the rifle in 3 gun matches at my club.

All three have gotten generally good reviews and seem to be good values in the inexpensive red dot category as far as I can tell. I like that the Sparc comes with a 2x magnifier (but I've read that it really narrows the FOV) and that it comes with mutliple mounts. The Bushnell is significantly cheaper than both, but I'd need to find a good mount to cowitness it. Leaning towards the Bushnell right now on price alone.

Any and all opinions from people that have experience with these optics would be greatly appreciated.

Not positive which Primary Arms you're referring to, but here's one with the Primary Arms Red Dot Optic (M4), which works well. I replaced the OE sights with a set of Magpul MBUS Front & Rear Folding Sights, which are very easy to use. They cowitness with the dot. Good luck. :)

I have the Vortex Strikefire on mine, originally co-witnessed with the stock factory sights, but now co-witnessed with the Magpul folders.

I don't very often use the doubler on it, as it does really narrow the FOV. I've been using the doubler as of late, trying to get used to it, but I still don't care for it. Using the doubler will mean you aren't going to be shooting with both eyes open.

I'm using it for ground squirrels, and am having a tough time picking them out of the grass to get on them with the dot. I find myself using my binocs to find the target, and then putting the dot where I found the intended victim. It's been doing well, but the dot covers the whole rat so I'm not sure if I'm always on. Usually I am, though!:D

In fact, I've been shooting my son's 10/22 with a 3-9 scope and think I would rather have a scope on my 15-22. I seem to have a lot more confidence with the crosshairs lined up and being able to see the shot.

Perfect world I'd have them both on there, but I don't think I'll go that route, but who knows?

The Strikefire can be had for $150 pretty much everywhere.

Happy Bushnell TRS-25 owner here. I have had it for ~a year w/o any problems. It is currently mounted on my 14.5 BCM middy. I have it mounted on a $10 UTG 1" 3 slot mini riser. It is rock solid and cheap.

Here's mine with a Mueller APT Tactical (Mil-Dot) 4.5-14x40mm AO Riflescope and Command Arms DVSR Scope Mount.

I have the Mueller APV flavor of this scope. It is a spectacular scope for about $125!

Not to be a show off, but I'm a Mueller fan and they are popular on rimfires. I have the APV on a CZ 453. I like the APV, but really enjoy the easily adjusted target turrets on the APT.

Great, now I have another choice to consider. :)

I'm sure it depends on the club/range, but 3 gun competition can go out several hundred yards. I'm not sure I would want to tackle that with just a red dot (or a .22LR).

However, if you can handle your upper limit, a Millet DMS-1 1-4x24mm gives you a dot/cross hair variable power optic. Kind of like getting the best of both worlds. I've ran it on my M&P15-22 and like it, as I do on my M&P15.

The reticle looks like this....(obviously without any of the writing) You get the benefit of the large circle for close up target acquisition. You get the finesse of a very small small dot for long range...and it doesn't block the target. And you get the crosshairs for pulling it all together.

The optic looks like this on a 15-22....(this setup is deadly on dinos!)

That's a MP-1522.com Barrel Shroud (Long), Black. They also make a short version for the newer MP 15-22's with threaded barrel.

I have tried too many scopes on my 15-22. It wears a Burris 3-9x40 Rimfire for accuracy shooting. A BSA Stealth red dot for plinking and magpul BUS. I've also used a Sig CP1 Prismatic Scope and a BSA Tactical 4X Scope. All of them worked well but none of them can do all the things I wanted to do. One thing for sure, the M&P 15-22 is a great 22lr rifle!
