I went shooting today and noticed my flash suppressor was loose. Actually i dont know it it was ever tight to be honest. You can unscrew it with your fingers. Then i noticed that the crush washer was never tightened enough to actually be useful in fact its not even bent.

I have been shooting this thing for w few weeks now and now i wonder how close i was to being tagged by fragments? There isnt any lock tight or anything on it and im not sure if they even use that stuff or not but i have been reading online how hard it is to get them off..

anyway i am soooo ****** off because i know i cant now exchange it at the gun store because i have had it for a few weeks. Plus if i ship it to S&W it will take at least a month to get back :( ughghhhhh!!!!!!!

And so you can't tighten it yourself?

I sent my 15-22 to S&W last year....it was one of the early models that had issues with the extractor. It took about two weeks, round trip....it was no where close to a month. Are they backed up on warranty work or were you just guessing it was going to take a month?

When i called them today they are closed down until the 15th (limited customer support until then) I guess they shut down for 2 weeks every year. The gentleman i talked to today said it would be at least a month before i would get it back.

This is just frustrating. S&W is a great company and i guess these things happen from time to time and it is what it is. Im just bummed out about it :(

But i know they will make it right i just am not that patient because i was going to join a group of guys and do a round robin tournament the weekend after next.

OK on the delay if it goes back to S&W.

Back to my first question....you can't tighten the flash suppressor yourself? I ask only because folks building ARs or modifying them seem to do that all the time. Is this suppressor somehow special? (my 15-22 doesn't have one....I got it long before that model his the market)

Tighten it yourself. Put the rifle on the ground. Tighten it as best you can, then lay on the rifle give it an extra 1/4 to 1/2 turn. OR just take off the suppressor, It will have no affect on performance unless your competition is at night.

Took it to the shop where i bought it to see if i could have them tighten it up. Got a call this afternoon saying that the threads were stripped towards the top of the flash suppressor.

Shop tried to order a new one from S&W but it would be a few before they would get it. Anyway they have an aftermarket one on the shelf they installed it for me at no cost for parts or labor. When the new S&W one comes in they said just to pick it it up and have it for a spare.

grabbed it about an hour ago and it looks really similar to the original. Plan on shooting this evening cant wait.....

Good customer service. Probably cost them little heck it was probably just one of those misc. parts we all have lying around and it makes for great customer service. Good for your shop.
