Which one of those guys wrote,..."Saturday Night Special"? You know the one that goes,"Handguns are made for killing, aint no good for nothing else..."
I love this old band but this song makes me want puke. When I hear it I can't help but see images of Sarah Brady, Feinstein, Boxer, Schumer, and everyone else who utters that stupid racist buzzword.

Ed King and the late Ronnie Van Zant wrote it back in 1975, found on their 3rd album Nuthin' Fancy.
If you don't like the song (and I can't say I blame you), skip it and listen to the rest of their catalog... :)

"...dedicated to all the Free Birds out there, and you know who you are..."

...defend the 2nd., it protects us all.
No fate but what we make...

On that note, How bout these whackos here in Orange Park, FL! They have stolen Ronnie's ashes! There is a $5000.00 reward for them.

Kinda like the guy who was buried in his Rolls Royce, 4 days after his death, a group of thugs broke into the mosoleum and stole the car, leaving his body laying in the open grass near by!

I thought I'd seen it all, until a 22WMR spun a bunny 2 1/4 times in the air!

...remembering as you do that Lynyrd Skynyrd and several other bands have histories of performing at fund-raising events for Democrats. These guys and their ilk are just as much the enemies of free people as Slick Willie and The Evil Al Gore.

They have another song that says I’ve got my pistols in my pockets and I’m Alabama bound.???????????????

They're probably hunters.

Could it be that they are just songs? Everything doesn't have to have earth shattering overtones.

"Gimme Back My Bullets" was a song asking for them to have another hit. On position charts featured in the weekly industry trade magazines, a "bullet" (a printer's symbol) is placed next to a song which is rising on the charts or showing promise.

Kind of a surprise.

I'd overlook it if it was just one line in the song, but the idea is repeated throughout. I don't listen to Skynyrd, Fleetwood Mac, etc anymore for their political/social views. It's too bad because I like their music. I can live without music.

I used to think these guys were brought up around hunting and had little use for pistols. I've met quite a few folks who hunt and would have nothing to do with handguns especially if they were fighting type handguns and not some scoped 8" Ruger or TC. I think Skynyrd displayed a similar cynical tone in the song "That Smell" about drugs. Probably success spoiled them. Got the Liberal fever.

There are a million photos of the band relaxing backstage with all manner of drugs, booze--and handguns. Most of the ones I can remember were long-barreled revolvers, big double-actions and SAAs. Obviously it's bad to shoot handguns and bad to do drugs--from people who should know, because they were photographed several times with a pistol in one hand and a bottle of Jack in the other.

Anyway, Skynyrd was OK, but nothing to get excited about. They weren't the freakin' Doors or anything.

I happen to be a Skynyrd fan and no I don't particularly care for "Saturday Night Special". So what? There are hundreds, thousands of bands who have made some songs I like and some I don't. Until somebody can show me an interview or something that says that Lynyrd Skynyrd was a bunch of anti gun liberal loonies, I'm not gonna worry about it. Meanwhile I'll be listening to "Sweet Home Alabama", "Freebird" and anything else they did without guilt. Don't we have more serious issues to deal with than speculating on the political motivations of a bunch of dead rockers?
If that song bothers you, try Weird Al Yankovic's "Trigger Happy". It can be pro, anti or just funny depending the person listening to it.
Get a life.

Lynyrd Skynyrd- Redneck rock!
