Lyman Gen6 and blackpowder

Hey all,

This might be a stupid question and an obvious no no, but still i'm wondering...?

Why the manual says never use bp on the autodispenser? Yes you measure bp by volume, but if I weigh with the scale for example 30gr of bp with a 30gr spout and then dispense that amount in gr with the lyman?

Or is it the corrosive nature of bp? But is that more corrosive than smokeless when in powder form?

Anything else that I cant think of?

It would be great to use the lyman to dispense a precise amount of bp when making combustible paper cartridges or ready to go amount of bp to a plastic container.

Thanks for all the help!

"...might be a stupid question..." The only stupid question is the one not asked.
"...30gr of BP with a 30gr spout..." Is not 30 grains by volume. It's 30 grains by mass. A powder scale not intended for BP weighs by mass not volume.
"...making combustible paper cartridges or ready to go amount of BP to a plastic container..." Doable, but not with a 'mass' scale. Think small pill bottles for the container. Paper cartridges get made out of regular copy paper.

The reason not to use black powder in an auto feeder is that black powder is a primary explosive. If the feeder breaks a kernel it could detonate. It won't happen often but it only takes once to ruin your whole weekend.

Black powder is loaded by weight (mass) but it is often used in volume measures after they are adjusted. (Just like your powder measure) The black powder substitutes are used with the same volume as black powder and not by the same weight. There is a difference in the volumetric density between the two.

Not quite (or the true BP measures like the Lyman 55 and/or the Belden&Mulls would be leaving a trail of dead bodies over the better part of the last century.
And remember, BP is granulated by giant rollers/disks that deliberately break the cakes/kernels into small & smaller sizes).

No, the reason I wouldn't use the autodispensers is that there's just too many moving electrical parts in the vicinity of the powder itself moving through.
