The LE 1000 is an old design. I had one that went south a decade or so ago. Had to toss a small weight on it just to get it to zero at all.
I don't recall what check weight it came with, but they are almost always some multiple of either 10 grams or 100 grains. Two suggestions: if you have a postal scale, weigh it in ounces. Divide by 28.35 to get grams. Divide by 437.5 to get grains. See which one comes close to an even multiple of 10 or 100. That's most likely your number. If you want more accuracy, call around to see if your local drug store has a scale they would be willing to weigh it on for you. You'll likely get grams, but he may be able to give you grains, as some medicines are measured that way. If you get grams, just multiply by 15.432 to get grains.
