Lurking and a review of a book

I have been lurking around this forum for some time now and thought I would add my 2 cents worth.
I am a shooter and frequently take classes and buy about all the books and videos that I can afford. My primary shotgun is the 11-87 Police and have put about 6000 rounds through it and about 2500 through the 870. I recently discovered a shotgun book that is absoluetly astounding in value. The book is by Jim Crews and is called Some of the Answer, Urban Shotgun. I have other books on how to use the shotgun but this one is by far the most detailed user's manual I have ever seen. I have taken a few shotgun classes and feel pretty good about how to use the shotgun but his book has shown me so much more about gun handling and applying the shotgun that the other books out there do not even come close. His book covers things that were covered in some of the classes like slinging, mounting, stances, loading, unloading, reloading, tactically selecting your load, transitioning to the handgun, etc., etc. His section of patterning of the shotgun and choking is the best I have ever seen too. I think that any serious shotgunner ought to take a look at this book because it is well worth your money. He has a web site www.marksmans.com and he has other books on the site. Have any of you gotten any of his other books or have any of you taken a class from him?

Shadowscout, I have 'Some Of The Answer; Handgun' and I agree that the information contained therein is some of the best I've seen. It's kind of a 'self-study crash course' in tactical combat defense.

Jim clearly knows what he's talking about, and has taken great pains to not only describe verbally the techniques for a SHTF scenario, but the photography is surprisingly crisp, also.

Those of you who also own handguns, I'd HIGHLY recommend Jim's book(s). They're really affordable, and the information in it may very well save your life someday.

Also makes a great holiday gift for someone you care about. (sorry, don't mean to sound like a commercial) :D

Manuals

Hey Rovert and Shadowscout,

I appreciate the comments. Thank you.

Most people have not had the chance to look at our shotgun manual, but then again, not many people these days are into the combat shotgun like I am. Jeff White did a review on our shotgun manual here on TFL some time ago and some of the other members have obtained the manual as well.

Thanks again and watch those wads.

Jim

Let me add my voice to those recommending Jim's excellent books. I first picked up his handgun manual and was very impressed. When I started looking into getting a HD shotgun it was only natural that I send off another check in Jim's direction for the shotgun manual.

I have enery intention, someday (when time and budget allow), of obtaining some formal instruction in the use of my new Mossy 590A1 in a tactical situation, but until that day arrives I feel that the combination of lots of familiarization and practice at the range, combined with Jim's excellent guide, have gotten me started in the right direction.

Highly recommended :)

Let me add another wholehearted endorsement for Jim Crew's shotgun manual. When I got it, I started reading and couldn't put it down easily. I read half the manual as soon as I opened the packaging instead of waiting until I had some free time. I've since reread it several times and still reference it as warranted.
