Lunch at Wal-Mart :-)

OK, well being that I worked in a union supermarket for 12 years (yes, I know, not very libertarian of me), I've never been one to praise Wal-Mart very often, but....
I went to Wal Mart at lunch to get my kid a pool. No pools left, but one of the end displays in the toy section had a large assortment of "assault" toy sets. Hmmm...let's see....one is a "Ninja" set, complete with the little star thingie and the two sticks that are hooked together (sorry, I don't know what these things are called). Another one is a cowboy one with a cap gun, etc. Anyway, there are like four or five different "baby assault themes." :D
Then, I'm leaving, and at the front of the store, I see two big boxes with the word "gun" on them, so, of course, being a nosey type of female, I have to go check it out. They have wood gun cases and metal gun cabinets for sale at the front of the store!
Sorry if this is a pointless thread, but in the current sickly sweet ultra-PC world, I found this to be a breath of fresh air. :)
I wonder what the MMM people would have to say about this!!!! :D :D :D

Gotta love WalMart here where I shop. The only bad part is that I can't buy guns or ammo from 10pm till 7am. (I'm nocturnal, too).

Now about the MMM. I was listening to a talk show host tonight and he said that the only good that came from the MMM, was that the husbands got a weekend from their bitchy wives. Too bad their husbands didn't choose better - like the guys on here! ;)

Tmoney, that is actualy Federal law I believe. You can't sell Firearms or ammunition between the hours of 11pm and 9am. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

FWIW,
The Walmart that I frequent most has a sign in sporting goods which forbids firearms/ammo sales between 10:00PM. and 8:00AM.
Wonder if that is due in part to NICS and the various State check systems.
I also like to shop in the 'non-peak' times, and sometimes it can be an inconvenience; but it beats the alternative...so far.

Yes, Cindy - isn't it amazing how some people suffer from "selective PC"... ;)

I buy ammo at anytime day or night at Wal-Mart. I go there at 3am most of the time, which is when I get off work.

It is funny though; they don't let me walk around the store with the ammo. They have to take it up front for me. The part I don't get is sometimes I by 20-gauge ammo for my shotgun and I get what is in the locked case. They still walk it up front for me even though there are fifty or sixty boxes of a different brand on an open shelf. Go figure, the world is a different place these days.

L-Frame,
Do they take it up to a register? Or do you pay for it there, and they meet you at the door?

if it's the first, maybe they're having a shoplifting problem? i dunno... sounds kinda kooky either way.

At the Academy store where I sometimes buy ammo, if you purchase handgun ammo, 9mm, .357 mag, etc., they have to carry it up to the front for you and hand it to the cashier. You can load all the rifle and shotgun ammo you can carry into your cart and take it to the check out on your own. I guess they don't want the 9mm to get into the wrong hands, the .223, .30-06, etc. is not a threat.

8th Street.
But, they weren't gun "safes," they were "Secure Metal Gun Cabinets."

Cindy,

At my Walmart they only sell gun 'cabinets', they don't sell guns or ammo. Even Kmart has gun cases and they have cool little BB guns too :D Anyway, yes our Walmart has the baby assault toys as well. Thats how I got my GI Joe plastic M16 and AR15 that sits on my computer :D I agree with you, it's nice to see that these toys have not been 'banned' as of yet. Yes, I am a nosy Mom too, always looking at the 'fun' toys.

As for pools, try Kmart, they have a huge family sized blow up pool for about $25 (it's on sale) and it's nice because the adults can fit in it too :) (Well that is BEFORE the kids get in there if ya know what i mean ;))

This "Wal Mart" store---does it sell groceries as well as everything else?
The reason I am enquiring is that Australia's biggest retailer (Coles Ltd)sells foodstuffs etc.and my wife shops there every day.We spend about $200 a week there.
I discovered that if I bought 500 shares or more in the company I would be issued a discount card worth 5% off all we bought.
The shares were $6.90 each and the cost for 500 was $3450 incl charges.I also buy some cigarettes there (3%).Besides that the shares pay a fully franked dividend(tax paid)
of $135 per year---the upshot of all this is that my share investment of $3450 pays a return of 21%---AND no tax implications.Maybe you have something similar? If so,it's worth a look.

Blue Heeler,

Here, there are grocery stores (e.g., BiLo, Krogers, Tops, etc.), the regular full line department stores (e.g., Wal*Mart, K-Mart, etc.), then there are the upgrades (e.g., Super Wal*Mart, Super K-mart, etc.) that are the department stores PLUS a grocery store all in one open 24 hours a day, then there are the bulk club stores (e.g., Sam's Club (Wal*Mart)) where you can buy paper towels 48 rolls at a time.

Don't know of any 'buy a part of the company and get some money back' type deals but most do offer their own credit cards that offer rebates or extra discounts.

TomMarker,

They walk the ammo up front to the register let me pay and exit the store. These people have a real problem. I keep telling them that they have shotgun ammo on the shelf, even 12 gauge slugs. It's the same stuff just a different brand. I don't get it. I don’t think they like me interjecting reality into the situation. They tell me they have to walk it up front because it is in a locked display. Funny how they never take they DVDs I buy up front, they just let walk around the store with them. Any way you look at it they are nuts.

Local WalMarts used to special order pistols. No more. Now they only carry PC long arms.

So many pistols, so little money.

Hmmmm, what an interesting plight for an anti.

Anti-"Ewww-look at the bad gun stuff in the front of the store"

Me- "So you're saying your against secure storage of firearms huh" ;)

Are you calling me an elf Santa? ;)

Interesting about ammo. I've purchased 9mm ammo at both the Wal-Mart and Academy near my home and they let me walk around the store with it. I've never had it carried to the front for me.

The two sticks hooked together are flails. The are not weapons, but what you use to beat grain off the stalk. Its just that the orientals like to fight with them.

The two sticks hooked together are called nunchaku. They are Okinawan tools used to thresh grain that the Okinawans adapted as weapons to thwart the invading Japanese soldiers during the days of the Samurai. The bo(long staff), tonfa(think PR-24), and kama(small handheld sickle) have similar origins.

Sandy,

The Wal Mart on North Ave. in Northlake sells guns and ammo.
