Lumps behind jawbone and under ear lobe---doctor?

Guys, I feel a couple of lumps about 1/2" under my ear lobe and just behind my jawbone. The are not sensitive to touch, but seem to be hard (I'm not about to squeeze a lot, as it's me inside those lumps!). any ideas?

Does this "not fit into another forum" well enough to be in the General Discussion forum? Don't answer that.

Yes. Doctor. Defintely! If it's something bad, the sooner you start attacking it, the better your chances. If it isn't anything to worry about, then you'll be informed of that fact and the sooner your mind will be at ease. Take care, FUD (too tired & sleepy to put a sign-off photo up)

Sounds like you've got either a swollen lymph node, or a cyst.

There could be a stone in the lymph node, it could be irritated, or it could be something graver.

If its an incipient infection of some sort, you really don't want to mess with it there. An infected node that close to the ear can cause lots of problems.

A visit to the doctor ought to be in order, especially if it becomes painful, swells more, you start spiking a fever, or you suddenly have hearing or vision problems.

"Sub-cutaneous cyst", as I recall. I had one cut off my neck; lab said no sign of cancer, as expected. No big deal, generally; an in-and-out bit of out-patient surgery. But I'd go to a doctor, yesterday, if not sooner!!!

Another deal is "squamous" growth which is a sort of pre-cancer. Same-o, same-o...

Long as I'm "practicing medicine", as in "this happened to me", I'll add that little surface pre-cancers can be "frozen" off.

Other small surface skin cancers can be treated with a sort of goop which makes the cancer cells go ape and grow themselves to death. You put the stuff on, daily, for about a month. It makes a yucky scab; the scab finally falls off and the cancer is gone. The slight discoloration goes away, eventually.

Again, all of the above is stuff I've gone through.

Look out for the dark jobber-doos on the surface; they can be melanoma, which is bad juju. Get to a doc just real, real early or you just might miss Opening Day.

Hope this helps, Art

I should have added that the lumps are definately under the skin, and not really attached to it (can't move the lumps by moving skin). I'm really thinking lymph nodes. BTW, I'm 25, so the threat of cancer is not quite as high. Like a dumy, I can't find my insurance card, but I'll talk to our HR tomorrow to see if I can go somewhere without it. I'm sure I can.

Frontsight Definitely see a doctor and let us know what he says. I am wishing it is nothing but do check it out.
P.S. To be appropriate for the site please describe the lump size in terms of caliber.

Lump size in calibers..........now we are getting somewhere. I had a 43 cal. removed next to my ear lobe and it was nuttin.
Take our collective advice and find your health card and get in to see someone just a little more knowledgeable in lump calibers and treatment then us.

Sounds like you have swollen lymph nodes. Could be caused by an infection elsewhere. I had the same thing a few years ago. Went to see the doc and she told me not to worry. Go see your doc. He'll probably tell you the same thing, but you need to be sure it isn't something serious.

Called the doctor's office this morning. In a day when you can't get an appointment in less than two weeks, they're seeing me at 2pm! I hope that he was just not busy, and not that my lumps are that bad!

BTW, lumbs are .25 caliber, and feel just as hard.

Good thing you are getting in to see the doctor. Don't answer any questions about firearms, though. You got in as about as fast as I did Monday after I was sent home from work w/chest pains. Called doctor, "Be here in 15 minutes" was the statement.

Keep us posted, eh.

Doc says it's lymph nodes, and to check back in 2 weeks if they don't go away. He squeezed them 'till I thought they's pop! They still hurt...oh well, the rest of me feels better.
