Luggage goons

On Monday, I double checked to make sure all my firearms were unloaded. My Colt SP1 Carbine went into the guncase. I closed the latches and locked it. Then spun the combination lock. Afterwards, I headed off to Springfield/Branson airport.

My flight landed in Chicago and had a looooong 3 hour wait until I caught my connecting flight to Harrisburg, PA. When I finally got home, I inspected my my rifle case. Of course, it had dings and scratches over it. My pistol case was inside my suitcase so it was unscathe.

Upon closer inspection, it seemed somebody at one of the airports (I think it was Chicago since I was there awhile) wanted to see what was inside the case. There are pry marks and the combo lock was all set to 000 000. I guess the thug assumed I was an idiot and would leave my locks at all zeros.

Lesson learned... DRIVE TO THE EOSM next year.

Just make sure you have enough vehicle to haul your toys :). Next year I may have to rent a straight axle 2 ton truck if I bring another arsenal

Son, in STL when I was checking in my luggage, Eric told the lady that I had 1 round of ammo and 4 casings in there. They FREAKED! She had to call someone, they are telling me I need to LOCK it up and all this other BS. Thankfully Eric explained to them that a) there was no firearm b) only one bullet and the rest were just empty casings. But the lady now knows what to do should anyone else travel with 'souveniers' :D

Sorry to hear of the pry marks. It probably was Ohare, maybe that is why you had to wait three hours, they thought they had a terrorist on thier hands :D

Next year if anyone is flying back home through O'Hare we will send an easy to pry open "deco" bag complete with the usual firearm labels but empty........except for the live copperhead snake inside.
I assume you did or will call the airline? I think they owe you a new gun case.

I was promised a Shortycicle and I want a Shortycicle!

Oh man does this bring back the bad memories. When I was slogging thru the long years in darktown I routinely flew out to a safer haven for R&R. Being the good "law abiding" citizen that I USED to be, I would declare my sidearm everytime I checked in. What a show! All manners of reactions starting with nervous fear, and degenerating down to complete hysteria. And talk about violating Rule number 3! Including one moron who looked down the bore from the muzzle end. And the rest of the flight(s) I would get lots of "looks" from my fellow passengers. Sheesh. I've got quite a collection of "Unloaded Firearm" tags and never did lose a gun...but then I always took direct flights and the pistol case was locked inside my hardside suitcase. Stay safe.

Sandy I think the thing that was confusing them is that I refused to call it a bullet.
It was a cartridge, and four casings. BTW if for some reason you are flying with ammo, but without a gun. You are allowed 11 pounds, and the "steal-me" sticker is not neccesary.

Son, that's worse than the "staple gun" thing.
Eric

Thaw Shorty!

I remember flying back home on leave with my personal rifle. It was in the original box and the people at the ticket counter told me it had to go in the cockpit with the pilot. The pilot met me at the gate at the beginning and end of the flight. It was inconvenient for him but they acted like it was no big deal. Of course, this was 34 years ago. :(
