Lugers for LEOs

How about arming police with Lugers? Sure, there wud be quite a few smokestack jams and such, but Lugers look so darn "poleecie" that many suspects might surrender.

Might need to add jackboots to get full effect. And change the sirens to the EEEE-ah-EEEE-ah kind.

I am submitting this idea to Al Gore who I think will like it.
 
In the context of Gore and elitist attitudes against all us great unwashed, there is a limited amount of validity to your comment.

However, when such moods strike me, I have found that Valium is of great efficacy.

Lavan, I think a better gun for the Al Gore plan would be a super soaker since he intends to end all crime with the banning of firearms. The police wouldn't need anything else.

And possibly to prevent misuse of department property. they should only be issued to supervisors.
 
Outstandding idea! Detectives should be required to wear black leather tench coats, too! Oh, and those with rank of Lt. or above in the organization should be issued monocles and riding crops.

I was always impressed by how a 4" barrel Luger (P-08) felt in the hand. It is the most natural feeling handgun ever designed and feels much better to me than the Browning HP or CZ-75. That set aside, it would look cool but considering the choice of modern guns and the sensitivity of the P-08 to dirt, it would be hard pressed to get cops to carry one. Besides, the P-08 has a legacy of being carried by the "bad guys" (the Kaiser's "baby eaters", "Nazis" and worse of all, the criminals who battled the Men from U.N.C.L.E.).
 
That's kind of an insult to Herr Georg Luger, mentioning his creation in the same breath as AlGore... Just for that, I am punishing the forum with a pic of my resurrected VOPO Luger, so there!
