Luger marks found inside grips.

Hi everybody. I have a luger p08 (deactivated) although its not all matching it has a very crisp action and a feel that if assembled from parts of other guns, it was done in germany, maybe at the mauser factory. The frame has the number 1912 stampted front above the trigger (just below the barrel) and 12 with a simson 6 eagle on many of the small parts. What i cant find any information on is the stamp marks inside both grips. Each grip has a swastika eagle stamp and below a WaA 63 with a simplified eagle, i've looked hard at this WaA number which could be 68 its hard to tell. I would be very grateful if anyone could throw some light on if this gun is a mauser rework. Its good to join the comunity.:)

"Deactivated"!? If it has been butchered, you may just have an interesting paperweight and its history (unless it belonged to one of the Nazi notables), is immaterial inasmuch as the value would be nil.

Like dahermit says, it has no value. Wasn't likely assembled in Germany either. Mucking around with Nazi stuff is illegal there.

Welcome Dave. I've owned a couple Lugers but am not knowledgeable enough to provide information on yours. I agree that perhaps someone in the Curios and Relics section may be of more help.

I have heard of deactivated pistols being of interest in places like England, and allowed with Government authorization, etc. Deactivated guns don't seem to hold much interest with most US firearms enthusiasts. Anyway, good luck in your search for information about your Luger.

I don't know where the OP is, but in some places, like the UK, handguns had to be deactivated or seized and destroyed. With no functional pistols, deactivated ones are the only collectibles and bring prices only slightly lower than functional guns do in the U.S.

As for WaA 63, that inspector was assigned early on to Mauser, Oberndorf. Since Mauser supplied parts to other makers, the number shows up on parts of guns by other prime contractors as well. One source says Simpson pistols show the number 33, but I have seen no pictures to confirm that.

OP, you may want to check the Luger Forums, they are quite skilled at decoding Lugers. Thye will requite plenty of pics of all of the markings.

I don't think anyone really jumped on him, some good info was given. But at the same time to hear a genuine captured Nazi Luger has been deactivated is sacrilege and tough to swallow for us gun enthusiasts. Obviously the OP didn't go and deactivate it himself, so can't blame him for just owning it.
