LR 308 question

I have one with 16" bbl. Any reason why it wouldn't be a good choice for marine boat duty? I have a stainless mini 14 already but was wanting something with more oomph as well.

I also have a 12 ga. shotgun.

Your guess is a good as mine---What kind of 'Marine Boat' duty? Private? Salt water? I can't imagine that a .308 wouldn't be a good choice IF you need the range.

I kept a stainless Mini on my 39 footer for years. But, that was in a express cruiser cabin that was more like a condo, than a locker on a center console.

If kept in "condo-like" conditions, not exposed to the elements, it's no different than keeping it in a non-conditioned space like a garage. Any well- oiled rifle in a protective case should be fine.

If you're talking about an open boat like a center console or cuddy, where it's gonna be kept in a locker and really exposed to the salt air, different story.
I'd only take it aboard when using the boat, and take it off when I stepped ashore.

I've owned boats and lived on the water on the Gulf for over twenty years, the salt air will take a toll on everything.

Whereabouts?
I saw MO in your post, and thought hmmm....marine?

Keep the rifle in a zippered case in a closet of your choosing. I wouldn't be concerned about it. Surely you'll be running the A/C units periodically, or have a dehumidifier running (you probably already know you need to do that here) to keep the cabin reasonably dry.

Clearwater Beach. We have had a condo here for three years and are buying a house on the intracoastal. Just bought a big express cruiser.

Thanks for the advice.

you can always keep some desiccant packages in the case with the gun(replace them as they turn dark). this will help cut down on corrosion since itll absorb the water in the air inside the case

the lr308's finish has been relatively tough in my experience let it sit in a gun case after being out in the cold for a few days and it didnt even have any rust forming which couldnt be said about my blue guns
