Lowering the comb...

I now know that I need to lower the comb on my 870. I have seen several high-end guns with adjustable combs. Up until today, I have only ever seen them used to raise the comb.
I saw one this afternoon where the comb had been "sunken" into the stock about 3/8" or so. This stock was really slick and allowed for a full-size recoil pad with just a "dished" area for the shooter's face.
Problem is, the guy vanished before I could speak to him.
Anyone know where I can find the bits to do this?
It was mega cooler than the bits of aluminum I have wedged between the stock and receiver to lower the comb now.

Mike: It seem like a simple enough project to simply make the comb cuts on your gun and set them lower in the butt. It will probably take a little trimming of the cut out peice to allow it to set lower in the stock and provide you with what you want. I would be a little concerned with the stock bolt hole too, you sure don't want to get into that area. Another thought is to remove some wood from the area where the stock hits the receiver and eliminate the shims you are using. How much do you need removed, could you simply remove some wood from the comb and make it work for you. Best of luck though.

A utility grade, unfinished replacement stock from Wenig. Last time I looked, $55.

A Nicholson 4 way rasp. About $20 at Home Depot.

The pad of your choice. Rasp, sand, pattern until it's perfect. Measure same, and write the numbers down. Store in a safe place. Sand stock and finish.

Get Wenig to make one to match out of purty lumber if you want.
